About

Overview

The purpose of this project is to create a "radio station" for Hebden Bridge.

At present there is no way for people to hear what is going on about town - events which happen, interest groups which hold meetings or just an individual who performs his own thing.

Structure

The "organisation" should be entirely a voluntary one, a "club" or "group" of like minded and interested people.

People not involved should be encouraged to join in and provide their own angle.

To this end, the group should be open and all the relevant infomation about what is going on should be available to any interested party.

Content

Content should be topic or event driven, ie. programmes should be there to broadcast a live (or pre-recorded) event or to be about a specific topic.

Content ideas include:

Trades club gig
Pub sessions
Performances
Crickstock
Carols
Oral history
Local history
One-off local drama productions
Story telling
Monologues

Content should be non-commercial, but this would not preclude a person producing a programme about his trade and how it works.

Any local group or individual should be able to put forward a programme idea.

Funding

Initially funding required would be low/none.

Equipment would be pre-existing, donated or borrowed from helpful people.

Bandwidth and hosting costs would be donated.

If circumstances changed that such funding would be need to continue than a plan would have to be devised to get donations or funding or to reduce costs (eg. different forms of distribution etc.).

If/when this was required, hopefully a more clear idea of the practical level of costs required would be available.

Programme makers should be responsible for the costs of programme *making*, with a general local supply of already involved people to assist with equipment and advice - only particulary elaborate programme ideas should need external funding to cover costs.

Performing Rights Costs

Hopefully the content should preclude needing to pay such things and a close eye would have to kept on possible liabilities.

If a programme is deemed to require such content, then funding would have to be found on an ad-hoc basis by the programme maker.

Website

A domain and website should be created to give a general overview of the station and its aims.

A listing of past and future programmes.

An archive of past programmes.

A forum/mailing list so people could discuss the programmes and be a focus for interested people to devise new programming and assist people who want to make programmes.

The website should also be the point of programme submission and allow for decisions on what goes out and when, ie. general programme planning.

Such decisions should be open, with hopefully a wide variety of people contributing.
